The Charleston County School District, divided into 8 districts serves Charleston with 42 elementary schools, 13 middle schools, 8 high schools, 12 magnet schools and 4 charter schools. The district enrolls about 48,500 students. Some of Charleston is also served by the Berkley County School District. A large number of private and parochial schools are found in Charleston as well, including the Trinity Montessori Christian School and the Bishop England High School.
